Dunn Folkin’ Around? started out as a dream of mine, to host our very own music celebration. To create a sense of community, for everyone to get together and share their love for music and art. A place for anyone to come, feel welcomed, and express themselves in any way they so choose. A way to honour my rockin’ mama, to celebrate her and all the other amazing moms out there, over a shared love for dancing, good folks, and music. Which is why DFA? takes place Mother’s Day weekend.
It all became true, when I won a shitter rental from a local silent auction back in 2018. We figured the only way to use this rental, was to throw a party. We rented sound gear, invited all our friends and family, and called any musician we knew. A bunch of friends came out early, and we slapped together a stage in a matter of days, and plugged in all the gear. It was such a rewarding feeling seeing everyone’s expressions throughout the weekend, and everyone could tell that something very special was being created.
Since then, and with the ongoing support of a group of individuals, we decided to create the Dunn Folkin’ Around? Arts Society; which is curated of a few members whom all share a passion for building community, creating a safe space for folks to gather, and giving artists an opportunity to share their art in a very unique setting. We strive to bring a fun filled, family friendly, music celebration into the North Thompson Valley. We pride ourselves in offering a unique, humble, and cozy weekend, where everyone feels welcome and like they are apart of the DFA? family. We bring in as many up and coming musicians as we can, from all over Western Canada, while maintaining a revolving roster every year.
We acknowledge the ancestral, traditional and unceded territories of the Secwepemc and Simpcw nations where we live, celebrate and play. We pay respect to the First Peoples of these territories and extend that acknowledgement and respect to all Indigenous Peoples.
